The comprehensive story of the construction of the initial segment of the Wisconsin Central’s mainline to Superior/Duluth, from Owen to Ladysmith, is told in this book from the Soo Line Historical & Technical Society Archives. Rare photographs, maps, drawings and 1917 valuation pages from the SLHTS Archives are included. Additional data provided by long-time SLHTS members and friends were also used by Archives Committee Chairman and historian, Larry Easton, to over the construction and operations of this segment of the railroad from 1902 to the 1980s. In addition, extensive coverage of the construction, operations, and abandonment of the John S. Owen and Stanley, Merrill & Phillips logging railroads is provided.
