SD40-2 No. 6612 is from the Soo’s seventh SD40-2 order (6602-6613). Units 6600-6623 have noise-abatement equipment in the form of an exhaust silencer hatch that surrounds the turbo stack, and 6602-6623 are equipped with “Q” (quiet) radiator fans. All of the 6600-series units have longer, 88″ noses with the extra cab windows or footboards common to previous orders. Like the earlier SD40/SD40-2s, however, these units were ordered without dynamic braking, although many (including 6612) were later retrofitted.
